Oh Pink! Party Shop: Colorful Beginnings

Oh Pink! Party Shop: Colorful Beginnings

Hey friends!

I thought it would be really fun to keep a blog of my great business adventure and tell you all a little about me and how I got here and what I’ve got planned for Oh Pink! Party Shop.

It’s hard to say where exactly my story began but owning my own business has always been a dream of mine. After I graduated University of Cincinnati with my degree in Interior Design in 2015, I worked at a branding agency for a couple of years I realized that corporate life is NOT for me. So…. I quit my job! It was a really scary decision but I just knew that I had to find that creative thing to fulfill me. I went to work in my friends’ super cute shop in Covington - Handzy Shop + Studio.

It me! At Handzy !

It me! At Handzy!

It was there really that I cultivated my desire for a small, boutique retail shop featuring all special items that I loved (and knew others would love as well) in an environment that was bright, welcoming and inclusive and just plain FUN. That was back in 2017, fast forward to end of 2018 when I think every night that the time was near for me to make an even bigger change. 2019 was going to be IT. I finally felt confident enough to go out on my own and make my dream a reality.

Thankfully, I’ve had a ton of friends to guide me along the way in the fun stuff like setting up my business and get permits and fill out spreadsheets, you know, the FUN stuff. (I kid.) But there is SO MUCH that goes on behind the scenes of the business and just when you think you’re all caught up, 10 more things that you didn’t know you needed to worry about pop up. I won’t go into details because it’s boring but that is the true reality.

One of the biggest hurdles to get through was the SPACE. I could talk about opening up a space but if there wasn’t a space available then I wouldn’t be able to do it. I knew that Ohio City was where I wanted to be, but the spaces available that fit within my price range and didn’t require a ton of work were few. The space I ended up with was the space I felt in my gut was the space I needed to be in. It checked off so many of my boxes and so I just went for it. In January I signed the lease with the plan to open in June.

Here is the space when I got it! When I look at it even now it feels so totally completely different and I had to use my best interior designer brain to visualize and plan this space. But as you can see it has tons of potential! The tall ceilings, natural light, close to all of the good stuff happening in Ohio City and downtown.

Fast forward so many months because I feel like it took SO LONG to get here, and I look around and I’m like HOW?! I painted, cleaned, order product, and then suddenly January became June and it came time for my GRAND OPENING! And as I sit at my cute pink desk looking out over my bright + colorful shop filled with product I have to feel so proud of myself. But really, the real work is just beginning!
